THE BRIEF
CRAFTING DESIGN CONSISTENCY IN HOTEL INTERIORS
Craig Manor in Windermere merges the feel of a calmy crafted homestead with the refined guest experience of a luxury hotel - a combination perfectly fitting for the expertly restored 19th Century residence in the heart of the Lake District.
Central to the design scheme is a coherent visual identity - marrying the amenity spaces and guestrooms with complementing aesthetics, so guests feel an uninterrupted experience moving through the building. Expertly created by APM Design, the team chose consistent core colours and repeat materials, rather than literal replication, arranged in different hierarchies and scale to give continuity while allowing each space to express its own function: the restaurant softer and more intimate; richer tones and higher contrast in the bar; guestrooms calmer for restful sleep.
We wanted to create continuity and a sense of belonging between the public areas and the guestrooms. We had created a hugely impressive ground floor bar, reception and restaurant which the hotel felt raised expectations for the quality of their bedrooms, it was therefore important that we redesigned the bedrooms to the same high standards.

USE OF COLOUR
ABOUT
Fundamental to its fluidity is its layered colour palette. Grounded neutrals anchor larger surfaces such as walls and curtains in public areas, a strategic decision to provide a forgiving backdrop for Windermere’s varying light level, and complement neutral wood tones used in joinery and furniture. In accents, calming blue and muted ochre are used sparingly — in bar seating and occasional wall panels — to lift the neutral base for a contemporary edge. Describing the most prominent aspect of the design thread, the wood effect, Dean told us
Given the hotel’s stunning Lakeland position with views across Lake Windermere and the Langdale Pikes, we specified Grey Beige Gladstone Oak from EGGER throughout as we liked its clean, contemporary yet natural appearance.

For curved areas and surfaces facing higher wear, EGGER Laminates provided a robust solution with an additional overlay for higher resistance, without altering the cohesive design.
